Macron Emphasizes France’s Climate Commitment
(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his nation’s dedication to fulfilling its climate objectives while addressing the UN Climate Change Summit in New York on Wednesday.
He also called for expedited worldwide efforts to eliminate fossil fuels, safeguard biodiversity, and overhaul international climate financing.
Macron noted that France has adhered to its carbon budget since 2017 and committed to continuing its trajectory toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
He confirmed that France will submit its updated nationally determined contributions (NDCs) before the year’s end, supported by both private and public investment.
“We must rise to the occasion,” he stated, emphasizing the significance of the 30th United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP30) scheduled for November as a pivotal moment for global climate action.
He also expressed strong backing for Brazil’s leadership under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and for international negotiators preparing for the summit.
Highlighting France’s key priorities, Macron stressed the gradual elimination of fossil fuels, enforceable targets to curb methane emissions under the Global Methane Pledge, and accelerated efforts on ecosystem restoration.
He underscored the essential role of preserving oceans and primary forests, particularly the Amazon, noting that French Guiana situates France within the Amazon basin.
France, Macron added, will introduce innovative financing strategies to protect these critical ecosystems.
